Attack of Life!

Hello Thrillseekers!!

It's been a long while since I've written a blog post. We've been a bit, overwhelmed here at Thrill. The two of us have been busy. Very busy. What with life throwing hurdles as it often does.

What we have been doing though, is organizing some cool things to start happening!
•New Issue #3 should be out before Supanova Melbourne!
•We're making allies and pairing with people for a lot of cool things to come! (One which includes role-play)
•We're finding new ways to present the magazine to you all, to make it more cost effective to everyone.
•Wondering about
•And of course, finding lots of people to contribute!

So I do apologize for the lack of activity, but hopefully we'll be more up and running soon!

Melbourne Art Fair and more!

Hi Thrillseekers!!

How are you all? You won't believe what's happening in the thrilling land of Thrill at the moment!

Thrill went to the Melbourne Art Fair over the last week (13th - 17th August). We had a stall with Exposition, part of MAF Edge. And it was amazing. We, at Exposition, were there to show that while we're all different stalls and from different areas, we all come together to create art. It was an amazing experience! We met so many new people, and taught a lot of people what cosplay actually is. It was wonderful!

We were featured first on Melbourne Art Critic, Black Mark's, blog here! Not quite Madame Red, but it'll do.

So what next? At the moment half of us will be at ChaOz over this weekend, 23rd-24th August, at our very own stall! We lots of copies of issue 2 to sell! So come buy one or just say hi!

We're hoping to start some new ventures when I move back to Melbourne soon. So hopefully I'll have more to write about!

But at the moment, just know, that there is nothing but good in store. And if you have ideas for any articles, or want to submit something, let us know.

Partnership + Transcribing interveiws!

Okay so firstly, I forgot to tell everyone that I've partnered up with my friend, Edward Felix, who is an amaaaazing graphic designer, for Thrill! He's doing the design and layout part of it. While I get the content and tell him what goes where. I am so grateful for him. I could not be doing this without him.

As for the interviews...
Wow I'm just transcribing a couple of interviews for the zine! And man oh man does it take a while to write everything up, get rid of the off topic rants (Suzanne I'm looking at you) and edit it up! So far I have 2 out of 4 done! Woo hoo! 2 to go (I actually have to still interview those two people.)

Is anyone wanting to see progress shots of the actual magazine so far? I can get some screen shots if anyone is interested!

I would like to issue a huge apology to Saffy! I honestly thought I had put up her photos from Melbourne Armageddon 2013, when it turned out I hadn't. I am so sorry! So here you are! Saffy as Flame Princess from Adventure Time! (I love her expression in the last one!)

The Sunday Special: Slinky and Deer

I have decided that each Sunday (until I run out) I will be featuring one (or two) friend(s) of mine who I have photog'd with! I'll tell you a bit about them, their character(s), and what else they do!

To start this off, I'll be introducing my friend Brianna L. and Amy J.

They are two of the coolest people I know. We've been friends since high school and I'm still soooo glad I met them. They're fantastic people.

Bri or Slinky, likes to cosplay many different characters and is a fantastic make up artist. She's been to Canada and successfully completed one of the more experienced make up courses for prosthetics and more. She's always happy to help and also helps me create amazing images.

Amy or Deer, has a wicked mohawk, which I haven't had a chance to get a picture of yet but it will happen. She likes to cross play a fair amount, meaning cosplaying, but cosplaying the opposite gender. Deer is an amazing artist, I wish I had that much skill with a pencil.

Here it comes!

And that time of the year is upon us again, Con Season.

Ah yes, the time of year where cosplayers are frantically finishing costumes they started two days ago for a con in a weeks time. The time where we round up all money favours people owe us in order to spend money on fanart and merch. And the time when the city groans at the fact that yes, once again we shall be taking over the trains and trams.

This weekend (6th&7th July) Melbourne will be hosting the second year of Oz Comic Con. Many people are hesitant as last year there were extremely long lines, crowded areas everywhere and lots of confusion. Not so good eh?

However! This year OCC has moved to a new venue! The Royal Exhibition building, near The Melbourne Museum will be hosting this large affair of comic book lovers and cosplays.

Personally I can't wait, I'll be doing cosplay shoots, selling aprons and prints, and hanging out with my friends!

Can't make it to Comic Con? No worries, within the next few months Australia will also be hosting:

• AVCon (in Adelaide, 12-14th July)
• SMASH! (in Sydney, in August 10th)
• Manifest (in Melbourne, 16-18th August)
• Armageddon Expo (in Melbourne, 19-20th October)

So get your comic on and come down this weekend for a adventure of a time!

Definitions for those who aren't in the know:
Cosplay: Costume play, the act of dressing as a character from a series of books/comics/tv shows/etc.
Fanart: Images created by artists of different characters from tv shows/books/comics/etc.

Light Painting Photography

So the first semester for my TAFE course is coming to a close, so I have much work to photograph and show! But I really want to share with you my photography project!

For photography we were given the theme of 'Time'. Not having to focus on time as being clocks or numbers or watches or anything, but ANYTHING to do with time. I chose to use long shutter speeds for light painting.

• What is light painting? 

Light painting is a form of photography, it involves using a long/slow shutter speed to capture the light as you draw with it.

What I personally do is using flash to capture the scene for a second and then run in with the light/sparkler/fire and draw images in the air.

• Okay, I understand, now what have you been doing Neitz?
  My work for uni not only involved light painting, but also cosplay! I spoke to some of my friends and they were more than happy to help me out! All photos were arranged by me; however with the last four shots, I had someone else hit the button while I did the light painting.
